Bead Sparks Retreat 2023

Aja

'Aja' from Maggie Meister is inspired by the architecture of the Buddhist Temples found in Japan and China and can be worn as a pendant or used as a decorative tassel.

The pendant combines components using a combination of Peyote Stitch and Cubic Right Angle Weave.

The piece is adorned with 2-3mm beads and Austrian briolettes drops over a silk tassel from Asia.

Skill Level:

  • Intermediate to Advanced. Participants must be able to stitch Cubic Right Angle Weave

Requirements:

  • Requirements list will be provided and optional kits in 3 different colourways will available (cost to be determined)
  • Maggie will also have certain colours of components available for purchase (i.e., tassels, cubic zirconias) for those who do not wish to purchase the kit

Maggie Meister

Maggie's love of ancient history, colour and patterns has followed her throughout her life. She uses seed beads, gemstones, focal beads, and a variety of beadweaving stitches - Peyote, Right Angle Weave, St. Petersburg, to name just a few- to translate designs found in mosaics, frescoes, architecture and jewellery into sculptural bead art to wear.

Maggie has taught and continues to teach workshops nationally and internationally throughout Europe. Her work has been shown in London, Milan and Naples and has been featured in ORNAMENT MAGAZINE, Beadwork Magazine, Bead and Button, and a variety of books. She has written a book, CLASSICAL ELEGANCE, for Lark Books as part of their Master Beadweaving Series.
